چکیده
Abstract. While there is agreement that global warming over the 21st century likely to influence biological pump, Earth system models (ESMs) display significant divergence in their projections of future new production. This paper quantifies and interprets sensitivity projected changes production an idealized ocean biogeochemistry model. The model includes two tracers explicitly represent nutrient transport, light- nutrient-limited uptake by ecosystem (new production), export via sinking organic particles. Globally, declines with due reduced surface availability, as expected. However, magnitude, seasonality, underlying dynamics are sensitive light dependencies uptake, which we summarize terms a single timescale linear combination partial derivatives respect nutrients. Although relationships nonlinear, this correlated several measures biogeochemical function: shorter timescales associated greater annual higher utilization. Shorter also warmer climate nutrients than light. Future work needed characterize more complex similar generalities examine change implications.

Biotic and Human Vulnerability to Projected Changes in Ocean Biogeochemistry over the 21st Century
Ongoing greenhouse gas emissions can modify climate processes and induce shifts in ocean temperature, pH, oxygen concentration, and productivity, which in turn could alter biological and social systems. Here, we provide a synoptic global assessment of the simultaneous changes in future ocean biogeochemical variables over marine biota and their broader implications for people. We analyzed modern...

Climate models project continued Arctic sea ice reductions with nearly ice-free summer conditions by the mid-21st century. However, how such reductions will realistically enable marine access is not well understood, especially considering a range of climatic scenarios and ship types. We present 21st century projections of technical shipping accessibility for circumpolar and national scales, the...

[1] This study examines the impact of projected changes (A1B ‘‘marker’’ scenario) in emissions of four short-lived air pollutants (ozone, black carbon, organic carbon, and sulfate) on future climate. Through year 2030, simulated climate is only weakly dependent on the projected levels of short-lived air pollutants, primarily the result of a near cancellation of their global net radiative forcin...

[1] Projected changes in the extra-tropical wintertime storm tracks are investigated using the multi-model ensembles from both the third and fifth phases of the World Climate Research Programme’s Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3 and CMIP5). The aim is to characterize the magnitude of the storm track responses relative to their present-day year-to-year variability. For the experiment...
متن کاملA new approach to projecting 21st century sea-level changes and extremes: 21st century sea level
Future increases in flooding potential around the world’s coastlines from extreme sea level events is heavily dependent on projections of future global mean sea level (GMSL) rise. Yet, the two main approaches for projecting 21st century GMSL rise—i.e., process-based versus semi-empirical—give inconsistent results. Here, a novel hybrid approach to GMSL projection, containing a process-based ther...
